See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil’- Eph. 5:15-16

Three Types of People on Earth

The epistle to the Ephesians is not an epistle to the heathen or infidel. The Apostle Paul was not addressing the unbelievers in this verse of the scriptures. He was addressing the church at Ephesus. In my book titled PILLARS AND CATERPILLARS, I talked about three types of people on earth.

The Jews

The Gentiles

The church

The Jews are the children of Israel; every human on earth with Jewish blood running in their veins.

The Gentiles are all other nations on earth. That is, all other nations apart from the Jews. This is referred to as the gentile world.

The Church comprises of those who are born again amongst the Jews and Gentiles. They are the called out ones; called out from the Jews and Gentile world; called out of darkness into His marvelous light.

God relates to these three types of people differently. They are different and so, He relates with them in their peculiarity. I am giving you this background to prepare your mind to understand the truth you will find in this book.

God has a covenant with Israel. He began with Abraham. In genesis chapter twelve verse three, God said ‘And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed’. His promise to Abraham and by extension to Israel has not changed. He will keep Israel, no matter the number enemies that seek her destruction.

God has only one message for the Gentiles: ’repent and be saved’. His expectation is repentance of the infidel. They are the wild olive tree Apostle Paul was talking about in Romans 11:24.

Just like your expectations of a 21 year old who is of age, God relationship with the church is holiness. We have believed in Christ, now He expects us to behave like Christ. There is a level of maturity He requires of us as believers; such maturity that is not required of the Gentiles.

Here is God’s expectation according to Luke 1:74-75: ‘That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life’

Based on this analysis, God’s dealings, especially with the Gentiles and Church are different. There are certain attitudes of the Gentiles that He will overlook and tolerate but when it comes from the church, He will sternly rebuke and punish. Let me begin my clarification by using an example with the FOOL.

There are two classes of fool: the unbelieving fool and the believing fool.

* The unbelieving fool

This fool does not believe in the existence of God. In his heart and mind, he sincerely and truly believes there is no God. This group of fools includes the atheists, evolutionists and those who think God is irrelevant in life.

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good’- Psalms 14:1

*The believing fool

This is the kind of fool we shall be talking extensively about in this book. When Apostle Paul said: ‘‘See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil’, he was talking about the believing fool.

A believing fool is a person that believes in God but lives as if there is no God. He believes in God but lives unlike it. This is the greater and bigger of the two fools. Apostle Paul gave some hints to Timothy about this fool in 2 Timothy. Believing fools are:

Lovers of their own selves

Disobedient to parents

Without natural affection

False accusers

Despisers of those that are good

Lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God

Having a form of godliness

In a nutshell, the unbelieving fool believes there is no God and thus lives without God but the believing fool believes there is God but lives like the unbelieving fool. The difference between these fools is that one believes there is God. With this preliminary, let us now start to build.

Foolishness is an attitude of poor judgment or little intelligence. It is a poor judgment or little intelligence to think there is no God or human beings developed from apes or fish. It is a VERY poor judgment or VERY little intelligence to live as if there is no God while believing there is God.

Foolishness is direct opposite of wisdom. It is showing lack of sense, foresight or caution. Put succinctly, foolishness is lack of understanding, wisdom and common sense. There are more people who live in foolishness in this regard though they believe God and attend church services.

*Anyone who denies the existence of God

This could be a direct denial as in the case of an atheist or an indirect denial as in the case of a believer in Christ who lives as though there is no God.

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good’- Psalms 14:1

This denial could be a verbal expression. There are people that say with their mouth of clay that there is no God or they don’t believe God exists. The denial that there is God could be in the heart. Some people don’t categorically say there is no God but deep in their hearts, they don’t believe in God. And then the denial can also be in action. Atheists believe there is no God and they practically live that way. Others are not atheists but their actions, nonchalance, lackadaisical attitudes and spiritual bankruptcy is an indication of their belief.

*Anyone who despises wisdom and instruction

If you despise instruction, you will devise destruction for yourself. There are such fools in the church. They will always trample golden words of wisdom and counsel like the swine. They will trivialize instructions. They will treat the word of God with levity.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction’- Prov. 1:7

Hopani and Phineas were fools. They despised wisdom and instruction and they perished in their foolishness! Their violation of the rules and regulations that govern sacrifice was a deliberate attempt.

Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD’- 1 Sam. 2:12

Eli, their father could not instruct them. They were defiant and mischievous. Hopani and Phineas were indeed a typical example of fools who despise wisdom and instruction.

Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the Lord's people to transgress. If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father…’- 1 Sam. 2:24-25
