Introduction

What is confidence?

Confidence means feeling sure of yourself and your abilities – not in an arrogant way but in a realistic sure way.

Confidence isn’t about feeling superior to others. It is a quiet inner knowledge that you’re capable and lovable, just as you are.

It is also the belief that you can do anything that you set your heart on—regardless of what it is.

It is the belief that you won’t allow others to put you down without a fight.

Confident people:

• Feel secure rather than insecure;

• Know they can rely on their skills and strengths to handle whatever comes up;

• Feel ready for everyday challenges like tests, performances and competitions;

• Think I can instead of I can’t!

Why Confidence Matters

Confidence matters because it helps us feel ready for life’s experiences. When we’re confident, we’re more likely to move forward with people and opportunities – not back away from them. And if things don’t work out at first, confidence help us to get up and try again.

It’s the opposite when our confidence is low. People who are low on confidence might be less likely to try new things or reach out to new people. If we fail at something the first time, we might be less likely to try again. A lack of confidence can hold people back from reaching their full potential.

Why Believe in Yourself?

Has someone ever told you that you’re smart? Funny? Kind? A good student? A good writer? A good athlete?

When people praise us or recognize our skills and capabilities, it can build our self-confidence—as long as we believe these good things are true, too.

If you’ve ever doubted the good things people say about you, that’s the opposite of self-confidence.

To feel truly confident, you need to really believe you are capable. The best way to get that belief is by learning new skills and talents and practising them.

Confidence helps us move forward to discover and develop our capabilities. When we see what we’re capable of and take pride in our achievements, confidence gets even stronger.

In this e-book, I will show you how to build your self-confidence, one habit at a time.

I believe that building self-confidence happens in small steps and it continues throughout our whole lives. So, we must be patient.

This means that we will never be completely self-confident. Building self-confidence is a process. But we can certainly become more self-confident by taking a few simple steps every day.

So, without further ado, here is the first step to building self-confidence.

Step 1: Build a Positive Mindset

When we are young adults, we can feel uncomfortable with ourselves on many different levels.

We are usually trying to assert our needs and even determine what our needs and wants are.

We are certainly truly to live in a world that seems to do nothing but criticize us for not being perfect. And what is perfect changes daily.

This culture of criticism and cynicism in which we live seems to be very destructive to our self-esteem and self-confidence. But what is more, it can cause a lot of us to develop a negative view of ourselves.

Given our cynical culture, how we can cultivate a positive mindset. Well, here are a few tips to help you out:

1. Trust yourself – don’t keep second-guessing what you are doing all the time.
