About Tosin Adeola

FIRST WORDS

Each of us is given a business to accomplish on earth. We must be conscious of the purpose for our existence. God expects us to give Him pleasure because we are created for His pleasure.

Imagine a television and a washing machine from the same store. Both of them carries the same manufacturer’s name and possibly made from the same raw materials. But the manufacturer built them for different purpose/business. The television is for entertainment while the washing machine is meant to work your clothes. The manufacturer derives pleasure from them when they fulfill their purpose.

But supposing these electronics could operate the mind of theirs and the television decided to do your laundry. I guess you know that will be the end of its functionality because it wasn’t meant to hold water. That is what happens to us when we misplace the purpose for which we were made for.

We are all created in a unique way to fulfill a unique assignment. Minding that assignment/business is the only way the manufacturer, who is God will be pleased with us. There are no two persons with the same assignment. This means, there is no need for competition.

I have packaged this book to help you discover and fulfill God’s purpose for your life and do it in a grand style. As you go through the pages of this book, may God grant you understanding and the heart to profit from the principles therein.

CHAPTER ONE:

THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH

God is interested in this earth more than we can imagine. A lot of Christian thinks that God is only interested in getting us to heaven. But according to the Bible, God is more interested in what we do here on earth than mere getting us to heaven.

This world is God’s project and because He can never fail, He must see to it that it succeeds. From the time God created man on the sixth day of creation till now, God’s desire for a perfect world has not changed.

If God is only interested in getting us to heaven as some Christian thinks, He would have created us in heaven directly. I used to think that this world is not important to God until I got a clear understanding into these verses of the Bible;

The EARTH and everything in it exists for the LORD--the world and those who live in it. (Psalms 24:1 ISV)

"For this is how God loved the WORLD: He gave his unique Son so that everyone who believes in him might not be lost but have eternal life. (John 3:16 ISV)

May your kingdom come. May your will be done, on EARTH as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10 ISV)

The best place God wants you to be at this time is not in heaven but on earth to fulfill His will. Everything in heaven is fulfilling God’s will, but not everything on earth is fulfilling God’s purpose and that is why He sent you here.

For God’s will to be done on earth, man must cooperate with Him. God will not do anything on earth without human cooperation. Every time human beings cooperate with God, awesome things are produced which we often call wonders. God wants to perform wonders on earth daily if we cooperate with Him. Heaven is the habitation of wonders and God longs to see an earth that will be filled with His awesomeness.

Not quite long, I got answer to one of the questions that have been bogging me for years. The question is; “why is our eternal destiny determined by what we do on earth?” I have asked the question that; why can’t God take people to heaven immediately they are saved? The answer I received was that God did not create man to live in heaven; He created man to live on earth.

The most interesting part is that God created man, gave him a higher nature and capacity to think like Him and placed him on earth so that man would transform the earth into a heaven-like place. God did not create heaven as a place where people escape to when they die.

The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: but the EARTH hath he given to the CHILDREN OF MEN. (Psalms 115:16 KJV)

Don’t be in a hurry to leave this earth because, you are here to fulfill a purpose which if accomplished will bring God’s kingdom down to earth. That is why Minding God’s Business is what guarantees a long and fulfilled stay on earth.

How to discover your mission

All that is written in this book will make meaning and impact in your life if you will take time to discover your mission on earth. God sent you here to fulfill an important mission (i.e. your purpose or calling). You don’t determine it, you only discover it. Discovering it is your responsibility.

The failure of many people is a result of them not discovering their purpose. This has led them into doing wrong works and ultimately living an unproductive life.

Discovering your mission is not a difficult process but it is a sensitive one. It takes a soul search with diligent approach. I like you to know that God will not hide His assignment for your life from your reach. He is a revealer of secrets and He is always willing to reveal to us His original plan whenever we are ready for it.

There are various ways to discover the plans and purpose of God for your life. I wrote some them in the book “Thinking Like God”. But here I want to show you one of these ways that is guaranteed to give you clarity about your mission. This way is through the operation of the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of His will.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:17-18 KJV)

The Spirit of wisdom and revelation is available to only those who have given their lives to Jesus Christ. If you are born again, you qualify to receive this Spirit. But this Spirit will not just fall on you; He comes into you by prayer and meditation on the word of God.

The Spirit of wisdom and revelation will give you full assurance of your mission. He opens your eyes of understanding to know whom you were created to be. He shows you what your future looks like. Every believer qualifies to enjoy the operation of this Spirit.

You will benefit from the operation of this Spirit by paying attention to your spirit man. Stop running from place to place for help and direction. Start spending time with God in prayer and study of the word. The more inclined your spirit is to God, the clearer you will receive instructions from Him.

The Spirit of wisdom and revelation will operate in your life all day long if you allow Him. I have received instructions about my mission while driving to work. Sometimes early in the morning, I hear His voice on what to do. I discovered my mission on earth by the operation of this Spirit and I believe if you will give Him chance, He will show you the main purpose for your existence.

Give yourself to prayer daily by asking God to give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. And get sensitive enough to receive from Him those plans that have been reserved for you. Whenever you discover His plans and purpose, write it down and run with it. Your life will never remain the same in Jesus name.

CHAPTER TWO

CONSCIOUS PREPARATION

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? (Luke 2:49 KJV)

Jesus had the consciousness of what He came to earth for and this mind had been in Him since He was young. He knew He was not here to perform some other tasks outside His Father’s work.

Some have interpreted the above scripture to mean that Jesus was hasty in His act. But looking closely, we will discover what made Him stay behind in the temple with the religious leaders.

Three days later they found him in the Temple sitting among the teachers, LISTENING to them, and POSING QUESTIONS to them. (Luke 2:46 ISV)

For Jesus to fulfill His purpose, He recognized the place of learning. Staying by the Father’s business means He was equipping Himself with what it takes to fulfill God’s assignment for Him. He wasn’t found in the Temple teaching; He was there listening and asking questions. For you to fulfill God’s purpose for your life, you must be open to learning.

After this incident, the bible says “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man”. (Luke 2:52 KJV). You cannot increase in the wisdom needed for accomplishing divine task without being a learner.

Has God called you into a work? The first thing you need is not to execute the assignment, but to learn about it and how accomplishing it is made possible. A lot of people in ministry and business have failed and given up because they did not pay the price of learning about their trade.

The 21st century technological advancement has given us various kind of avenue to learn about God’s business for our lives. All that Jesus had were the teachers in the temple. That was why He spent those long hours (about three days) getting adequate knowledge from them. But today, beyond printed materials and bible classes, the computer and internet has given us unlimited access to quality materials we can learn from to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives.

For you to succeed in that which God has called you to do there must be a conscious preparation. You must be conscious of what God has called you to do and you must consciously seek-out sources where the learning material are located and go for them.

We must make use of all divinely programmed opportunities to learn. Jesus was in the temple for three days learning from the spiritual leaders of His day. No wonder He finished His work within a short time. No matter how great your calling or vision may be, if you fail to learn, you have set yourself up for failure.

It will interest you to know that Jesus was not found on the farm trying to learn farming. Neither was He found among the tax collectors learning about tax. He was found about His Father’s business which is Preaching and Teaching of the word of God.

The frustration of many lives is in minding other people’s God ordained businesses. To discover God’s business for your life and learning from right sources on how to fulfill it is the sure way to pleasing God.

Parents should be told to train-up their children in the way they are supposed to go (Prov 22:6). Not the way their parents wants, but the way designed by God for them to go. Many parents are training their children in a wrong way. It is wrong to bring up a child in a way contrary to his/her purpose. Jesus’ parents were instrumental to the fulfillment of what He was on earth to do – they brought Him to the temple.

Success in life comes when you are going about your purpose every day. Our mind needs to be developed through learning to absorb in full all that God purposed us to be.

Every calling or assignment is a major one. There is no inferior assignment as far as God is concerned. It is ignorance that makes people envy each other. “…but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise”. (2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV).

Your purpose will never look attractive to you unless your surround yourself with materials that makes creative thinking possible. Whatever you are called to do can only grow when groomed in the right environment. If God calls you to be a farmer; studying books on agriculture and learning about new ways farming can be done best remains the only way to your success. But if your purpose is to be a pastor and you spend all your life studying and practicing banking, you are nothing but a big failure.

Spend time with people who can affect your dream in a positive way. Spend time and money on books that brings you closer to the attainment of your goals. Enroll in schools that offer the skills you need to reach your God ordained destination.

You can’t afford to fail. Therefore, you must do all it takes to fulfill your service to God. God will not force you to succeed. Though He created you to succeed, He will only make available to you abundant grace needed to carry out your assignment to finish.

So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God. (2 Chronicles 27:6 KJV)

Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to live as the LORD his God wanted. (2 Chronicles 27:6 GW)

You will grow powerful and more powerful if you determine to live the life God wanted for you. Consciously prepare yourself for your assignment and leave no stone unturned in the quest for the key that guarantee success in it. It was this unstoppable quest for the key that led Jesus to river Jordan where the heavens were opened to Him after water baptism.

I urge you to be restless in your search for the keys that guarantee excellence in what God has called you to do. God wants excellent service from us and it’s our responsibility to discover how our calling can be delivered to God in an excellent way.

Avoid Contamination

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. (Daniel 1:8 KJV)

There are so many things that can contaminate your vision and dreams and ultimately disqualify you from rendering quality service to God. Most of these things are legitimate and good in themselves but which will cause harm to your purpose.

One of the things that can contaminate your vision is association. The bible says “Don't let anyone deceive you. Associating with bad people will ruin decent people”. (1 Corinthians 15:33 GW). Friendship is not by force, but by choice. Your vision from God can be destroyed by wrong association. Those you allow into your life can determine whether you will render your God ordained service to Him or not. There are many music artists who started in the church, but ended up in shrines, night clubs and unholy places because of wrong association.

Association is not just about the people you visit, talk to, or move with; it includes what you read, listen to and watch. Your thinking will be affected by what you read, listen to and watch. This will ultimately affect your outcome in life. So, associate with right books, and listen to right words and watch right people speak words and do things that can change your live positively.

What God has called you to do is the reason for your existence. Discovering and consciously living for it is what makes life meaningful. I urge you to decide for change today. Discover your purpose and consciously prepare yourself for it from today and live the rest of your life learning and doing what is required to fulfill it.

CHAPTER THREE

SENSE OF URGENCY

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. (John 9:4 KJV)

One of the things we must know as people created for God’s business is that, we don’t have all the time in the world to fulfill our assignment. Our time on earth is limited and therefore it is important we have a sense of urgency in carrying out our assignment.

The choice of words that Jesus used in John 9:4 points it clearly that we can succeed only, if we approach our calling with a sense of urgency. He said “I MUST DO the work…”. That is a statement of determination and one that shows He was under a force compelling Him to do what God gave Him to do.

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day (John 9:4). The opportunity God gave every one of us is what Jesus called “day”. The “day” here represent the time of life of each of us in which we have strength to produce. This is what some call “the prime of life”. Unless we take advantage of this “prime of life”, we will never become whom God wants us to be.

We will all get to a point in our lives called “the night” where and when productivity becomes impossible. That is the reason you can’t afford to procrastinate on important issues of your life. Whatever needs to be done must be done at the right time.

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; (Ecclesiastes 12:1 KJV)

It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. (Lamentations 3:27 KJV)

I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. (1 John 2:14 KJV)

The days of your youth are days of strength and vigour. Jesus referred to this period as “day” and the later days of life as “night”. We must live our lives with this consciousness so that we can make the best of every opportunity.

Maximizing opportunities

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:15-17 KJV)

So then, be very careful how you live. Don't live like foolish people but like wise people. Make the most of your opportunities because these are evil days. So don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord wants. (Ephesians 5:15-17 GW)

You must be careful how you live if you want to succeed in life. God has given you multiple opportunities to fulfill His will for your life. These opportunities are presented to you each day. You need to get conscious of these opportunities and maximize them.

Maximizing opportunities will not be possible unless you develop the capacity to identify them. Because most opportunities come disguised, many people fail in life when they can’t recognize them. Most people whom God called into healing ministry were sometimes in their early life faced with health challenges. Their health problems gave them the opportunity to learn how to receive healing and help others receive theirs.

Greatness in life and ministry is a product of best use of God given opportunities. You must be able to identify those opportunities before you can maximize them. It takes a matured mind to develop the skill for identifying opportunities. The bible says “But solid food is for mature people, whose minds are trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.” (Hebrews 5:14 ISV).

You have to train your mind to recognize opportunities. The more you train your mind, the better it is for you to recognize opportunites. There was a story of two people involved in shoe business. The first guy got to a town where people dont wear shoes. He thought within himself, what a wrong place to sell shoes. The other guy also got to this town and observed the same thing but with a different perspective. He said to himself; what a great opportunity to sell shoes. He believed if he could convince the people to try it, it will be his biggest breakthrough.

It is not enough to recognize opportunities without identifying which of them is meant for you. What am saying is that, when you see an opportunity, dont just stop there but go the next by validating if you are meant to execute it. Many opportunities are presented to us every day, but only a few of them are relevant to our purpose and mission.

The person who cannot identify opportunities is seriously in a deep trouble and frustration. So also, the person who can identify opportunities but cannot ascertain which one is relevant to his purpose will end up in a deeper frustration from wrong works. God wants you to do right works that guaranttee fulfillment and brings pleasure to Him.

When David was going to face Goliat, he did not see it as a mere opportunity. He saw a problem he has been anointed to solve. The Holy Spirit is the annointing that enable us to maximize opportunities. Whenever God gives opportunity, He anoints you to accomplish it to His glory.

Don’t live your life solving other people’s problems, identify your opportunities and engage the help of the Holy Spirit to maximize it. Dont go into a business because its profitable. Be careful to ascertain if it’s in line with God’s purpose for your life and find out if you have been empowered (annointed) to execute it. A business may be profitable for many people, but if you don’t have the grace to succeed in it, you will fail. So find those opportunities you are anointed for and take advantage of them.

Be a good time manager

The tribe of Issachar supplied 200 leaders, along with all of their relatives under their command. They kept up-to-date in their understanding of the times and knew what Israel should do. (1 Chronicles 12:32 ISV)

Time management begins with understanding of times. You can’t be a good time manager unless you have acurate understanding of the times of your life. There is time for everything (Eccl 9:1-9). When understanding of the times is lacking, wrong living becomes the order of the day.

If David had returned to following his sheep after killing Goliat, he would have ended a failure. Killing Goliat was an open door to be enlisted in the army of Israel. “And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants”. (1 Samuel 18:5 KJV).

Some breakthroughs in life are open door to a higher calling. So don’t waste it. There is a time to be an employee and there is a time to be an employer of labour. Paul said, “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.” (Hebrews 5:12 KJV). Proper understanding will deliver you from wrong works and empower you for a life of fulfillment and effectiveness.

It is possible to be busy with wrong things if you dont understand times. Some people pursue career at the expense of their marital life. Effective time management is a function of a balanced life. According to Bishop David Oyedepo; “understanding times and seasons is the key to maximizing destiny”.

For any farmer to enjoy bountiful harvest, he must understand the times and seasons and take adequate advantage of them. When a farmer misses the right time to plant his crops, though he may plant it on a later day. He stands the chance of delaying his harvest or worse still, loosing all his investments. If we want to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives, we must be good time managers by understanding the times and seasons.

God’s business for you is very important, that you cannot afford to be a time waster. You can’t be a regular TV watcher and expect to live an effective life. Times spent doing unproductive activities are fractions of life that is capable of turning an individual into a history maker if well invested.

I have head people say “you can’t cheat nature”. Though it sounds nice, but we must realize that man was not created for nature, rather nature was created for man. The nature created for you should not dictate the direction of your life. That is why it is possible to have harvest in season and out of season.

Sleep is an important thing created for man as a way of making rest possible. But we must be very careful how we handle sleep, because it has the capacity of stealing away our time. According to Jim Rohn, “you are not on earth to rest”. Sleep is meant to be a reward after a well laboured day. “The sleep of a labouring man is sweet,” ... (Ecclesiastes 5:12 KJV)

When you make sleep a project and a mission to be accomplished, you have signed for a life of failure. “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.” (Proverbs 6:10-11 KJV)

We need the Holy Spirit for effective time management. The Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus Christ helped Him to always be on time. When He was on earth, He maximized every opportunity by doing all that the Father wants Him to do. And when it was time to go to the cross, He approached with a sense of urgency and no wonder He succeeded. “But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!”(Luke 12:50 KJV). My prayer for you is that you will suceed in Jesus Name. Amen.

CHAPTER FOUR

SENSE OF COMPLETION

Jesus told them, "My food is doing the will of the one who sent me and completing his work. (John 4:34 ISV)

But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. (John 5:36 KJV)

The desire of God is that you finish the work He called you to do. You must be mindful of the need to complete your assignment. Every one who completes his God-given assignment is an overcomer and there is a throne of glory awaiting him/her. “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne”. (Revelation 3:21 KJV)

Jesus completed His mission to earth. His last words on the cross were these, “it is finished” (John 19:30). He left nothing undone that He was sent to do. The Father was pleased with His performance that He gave Him a name that is above every name.

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11 KJV)

Paul the apostle finished his assignment on earth despite the great challenges that he encountered. He said “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” (2 Timothy 4:7 KJV). No wonder he wrote most part o the New Testament. Paul finished his mission despite the prison and chains he encountered. That is why i believe you and I have no excuse for failure. We must cultivate the sense of completion if we want to succeed.

You are not on earth to make attempt or create an impression. You are here to finish whatever you have been sent to do. You are not meant to pass your responsibility to generations after you. Generations after you may improve on what you have done, but they are not meant to do your part.

Whenever God is calling a man into an assignment, He often reveals the end even when he has not started. The reason God always reveal the end from the beginning is to enable man run his/her race to completion. The finished line for every man is different. That is the reason one cannot compare himself/herself with another. Your success will not be measured by another man’s standard, it will be by what you are created to finish.

If God called you to create a business that will employ a thousand people and you end your life employing only five hundred people. As far as God is concerned, you have failed. Men may praise you, but the creator will not be pleased with anything that is lower than the standard set for you.

Each one of us has a finished line that must be reached in order to receive commendation from God our creator. We must be conscious of this and run our race in order to finish it.

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. (1 Corinthians 9:24 KJV)

Don't you realize that everyone who runs in a race runs to win, but only one runner gets the prize? Run like them, so that you can win. (1 Corinthians 9:24 GW)

You are in a race in which you are expected to win. You are not attempting a race, you are running to win. Whatever God has showed you about your future are attainable. Even if what you are seeing around you is discouraging, success is sure if you refuse to give up.

God showed Joseph the future He planned for him and it came to pass because he refused to give up. Even in the prison, his hope was alive. He told the butler; “But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:” (Genesis 40:14 KJV). Joseph made this statement because he believed in the future God showed him. He knows he was not going to die in prison.

There is a great and glorious future awaiting your arrival, don’t give up. Your present circumstances are temporal, what God said is eternal and that is what will come to pass concerning you. No matter what happens, don’t deviate from what you conceived about your future. Don’t sell-out for anything less than the beautiful dream God gave you about your life and it will come to pass in Jesus name.

Springboards to finishing your assignments

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27 KJV)

There are springboards to fulfilling your purpose. You won’t fulfill your calling by accident, but by a calculated steps and acts. Let me walk you through some of these springboards that I have discovered.

No: 1: Discover your Finished Line:

Every athlete is aware of where the finished line is and that encourages them to run towards it. It is the discovery of where your finished line is that gives meaning and excitement to your race in life. Paul the apostle said; “So I run-but not without a clear goal ahead of me. So I box-but not as if I were just shadow boxing.” (1 Corinthians 9:26 GW).

You must have a clear goal for your life. What is it that God wants you to accomplish in your lifetime? What dream has God given you or which word has he spoken to you about your future? That potential in you is meant to accomplish what?

Moses was meant to lead Israel to the Promised Land; David was called to be a king that ruled the people God’s way; Jesus was sent to die for the sin of mankind and restore us back to God; and Paul was called to take the light of the gospel to the gentiles. All of these aforementioned people fulfill their callings because, they discover what they were meant to accomplish.

Discovering your finished line is more than just knowing what to do. It involves knowing all that you are expected to do. For instance, many people discover that God wants them to preach and they do it in a way that is far below divine expectation. Because they have not taken time to discover their finished line. If God called them to preach to a million people, and they end up preaching to a hundred thousand; they have failed.

You need to spend quality time with the Holy Spirit in the word, prayer and deep meditation if you will discover all that God has called you to accomplish. The bible says; “But as it is written, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him." But God has revealed those things to us by his Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10 ISV). There are many things you are yet to discover about your life and future. As you spend quality time with the Holy Spirit, they shall be revealed to you.

No. 2: Focus on the Finished Line

It is not enough to discover your finished line, you must keep focus on it. Focus your thought, energy and time on it. Whatever is going on around you should not shift your focus from the finished line. Everyone who jumps the bar in sport knows this. Their focus must be above the bar if they will scale it.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2 KJV).

There is a joy attached to fulfilling your purpose. There is a joy in reaching your goal. That joy must motivate you enough to set your eyes on the goal. Jesus endured the cross and despised the shame because His focus was on the finished line. When you are focused on the finished line, present circumstances will not distract you any longer.

Spend time everyday meditating on your finished line, read books that help you to keep focus and surround yourself with people who set you on fire to reach your goal. Don’t shift your focus because of a temporary pleasure or hardship. Just like Joseph did not shift his focus despite the seduction and threats by Potiphar’s wife. You must maintain focus to win your race. I see God helping you in Jesus name. Amen.

No. 3: Determination to Finish Well

To finish your assignment, you must have a resolve to succeed. You must be determined to go through the hardest of times if so required to accomplish you task. The bible says, “When the days grew closer for Jesus to be taken up to heaven, he was determined to continue his journey to Jerusalem.” (Luke 9:51 ISV).

Jesus knew what will happen to Him in Jerusalem. He knew He was going to be arrested and killed. But much more, He knew that was the door to accomplishing the purpose for which He was sent to the world. His determination to finish His assignment kept Him going. “But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!” (Luke 12:50 KJV).

You won’t succeed without a strong determination. I can’t promise you the road will be easy and I won’t promise you will get there early. But whether difficult or long, your journey will surely end well if you refuse to give up.

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18 KJV)

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (Galatians 6:9 KJV)

Whatever God revealed to you about your future is more real than what is happening right now. What you can see now is temporal, but those things that are revealed are eternal. So be determined to set your mind on the yet to be manifested future and do all it takes to get there. In no time, the unseen will become seen.

No. 4: Discipline yourself to succeed

No, I keep on disciplining my body, making it serve me so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not somehow be disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:27 ISV)

Without discipline, success will remain an ordinary dream. Every assignment has rules that make for its accomplishment. Obeying those rules in order to complete your assignment is what I term discipline. It is carrying out your mission as demanded and not as convenient. It is working according to the rules of engagement. According to Jim Rohn; “Discipline is the bridge between thought and accomplishment… the glue that binds inspiration to achievement … the magic that turns financial necessity into the creation of an inspired work of art… the foundation of which all success is built and the lack of which inevitably leads to failure”1

To practice self-discipline successfully, you must recognize the rules applicable to your dreams and calling. An athlete will become successful by spending hours in physical training while a preacher requires extra time in prayer and study of God’s word to succeed. Every assignment has unique rules that guide it.

Self-discipline is giving oneself to what must be done to accomplish a task. Jesus lived a disciplined life by fulfilling the requirement for His assignment. “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;” (Hebrews 5:8 KJV); He fulfilled all righteousness by submitting Himself to John to be baptized.

Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is helpful. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not allow anything to control me. (1 Corinthians 6:12 ISV)

Though you have access to everything, you must be disciplined enough to go for only those things that will profit your life. You must discipline yourself on how you manage your time. And also you must discipline the way you think. The bible says “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23 KJV).

A loosed life will end in regret. So also, a lawless living will end you in an undesirable destination. Tighten up your life by discipline and you are on your way to an enviable success. Set standards for yourself according to your purpose and your sail through life will be a smooth and rewarding one.

No. 5: Diligently pursue your mission to the finished line;

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. (Proverbs 22:29 KJV)

The future of any venture is a function of how diligent, the foreman is. Without diligence, a great idea or dream will be aborted. Diligence talks about working hard towards a desired goal. No one has a future outside hard work. Work with your hands and with your mind to realize your goal.

The God almighty had to work for six (6) days creating the heavens and the earth before He rested on the seventh day. Jesus Christ said “But his answer was: My Father is still working even now, and so I am working.” (John 5:17 BBE). You must understand the place of diligence in the fulfillment of your purpose.

Many people wish for better days but who are not working. The future you dream about must be worked at. Noah worked to build the ark. Paul the apostle was diligent in his travel from one place to the other and in his writings. You must be diligent in your pursuit to reach your destination.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute. (Proverbs 12:24 KJV)

Hard work will give you power; being lazy will make you a slave. (Proverbs 12:24 GNB)

To reach your finished line in life, you must be diligent about your assignment. Diligence in planning for success and executing those plans by corresponding action. I pray that God will give you the grace to be a diligent person in Jesus name.

CHAPTER FIVE

PARABLE OF SERVICE

In the teachings of Jesus Christ, one of the parables that described the expectation of God for man and which categorized men on the basis of service is the parable of the talents. (Mathew 25:14-29)

Minding God’s business demands that we flow with understanding of God’s way about kingdom service. This kind of understanding is what makes success a possibility. If you catch what am about to show you, you will not only succeed, but bring pleasure to God. Here are seven (7) lessons I learnt from the parable of talents, which I believe will change your life forever.

#1: Everyone is entrusted with a purpose or calling:

For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. (Matthew 25:14 KJV)

"The kingdom of heaven is like a man going on a trip. He called his servants and entrusted some money to them. (Matthew 25:14 GW)

You have been commissioned to fulfill a divine assignment. Whether you realize it or not; it is what you have been entrusted with. Whatever God deposited in you is there on the basis of trust. God’s expectation is that we discover what He has deposited in us and use it for His glory.

We are created to bring pleasure to God, but without fulfilling His calling upon our lives, we cannot give this pleasure to Him. God entrusted us with His resources (callings) to bring Him pleasure. Each of us has a mission to fulfill on earth, whether big or small. Some individuals are entrusted with one or two of the five-fold ministry, while others are entrusted with callings in business and politics. The expectation of God is that you profit in whatever you have been entrusted with to the glory of His name.

#2: God gives callings according to our ability

And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. (Matthew 25:15 KJV)

We are all created with different capacities. The creator knows what He created and so he gave everyone assignment based on the ability that each has. Your ability is not determined by what you have done, it is your original make-up that constitutes your ability. For instance, cars are not made for freight purposes and Trucks are not designed for speed. So God does not expect you to deliver beyond your in-built ability.

Your ability determines your calling and God’s expectation about you. But most times, we fail to discover our ability and maximize our callings. Some that were called to do “big” things for God focus their minds on small things while those that were called to do great but “small” things run their race trying to do “big” things.

#3: Success is measured according to your ability

Your success is not judged by what another person does or accomplish. It is judged by the ability you have been created with. Apostle Peter, the head of the apostles did not have the kind of ability that Apostle Paul had. Paul was built with a kind of ability that could withstand every form of prison experience and still succeed (2Tim 2:9). But one Prison experience that Peter had got him sleeping and waiting for death (Act 12:5-7).

These two apostles had different abilities and callings. They were both successful because, they understood their abilities and callings and maximize it to the glory of God. None of these two apostles was greater than the other because, God will not judge us based on what someone else does.

And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. (Matthew 25:20-23 KJV)

Therefore, cherish your callings and gifts and maximize them to the glory of God. Don’t try to be like someone else. Strive only to be yourself and all that God created you to be. You shall not fail in Jesus Name.

#4: You must trade with your calling for it to please God

Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. (Matthew 25:16-17 KJV)

No one succeed by being called or gifted. You succeed by working out your gift and callings. You must put your purpose to work for it to generate profit. There are many gifted singers who never release an album. They only sing to themselves. That is a wasted talent. There are many people whom God gave the ability and purpose to effect a change in our political system but who have been trapped in an office somewhere balancing accounting books. The list is endless of people who are doing nothing with their God given talents.

You are not profitable to God unless you are trading with your gifts and callings. To note, is the fact that God will never take excuse from anyone who fails to trade with his/her calling. He can bear with you for a while to see if you will realize and start producing for Him. But He will not excuse you if you eventually fail at the end of your life.

Then Jesus told them this parable: "A man had a fig tree that had been planted in his vineyard. He went to look for fruit on it but didn't find any.

So he told the gardener, 'Look here! For three years I have been coming to look for fruit on this tree but haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it waste the soil?'

But the gardener replied, 'Sir, leave it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and fertilize it.

Maybe next year it'll bear fruit. If not, then cut it down.'" (Luke 13:6-9 ISV)

If you fail to use your calling, you will surely loose it. You will not only lose your calling, you stand the chance to lose your life. To someone right now, God might have borne with you for many years and all He is giving you is one more year. I don’t want you to drop this book without making a decision to follow God’s purpose for your life and be fruitful for Him in the next one year of your life.

The man, who got the one talent, lost it and also lost his place because he failed to trade with it. It is your responsibility to trade with your talents. God will not use your gift and calling for you. He gave you, so that you will use it and profit with it. You have hidden your purpose long enough. It is time to dig it out and use it for the benefit of the kingdom of God.

#5: If you can’t trade with your gift or calling, hire it out

His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. (Matthew 25:26-27 KJV)

The least God expects from any man or woman is to hire out their gifts or calling. It is better to lease out your calling than to hide it. Every gift and calling can be leased out for a while or for a lifetime.

When you lease out your calling, you share out of the profit and you allow God receive interest for His deposit in you. You won’t qualify for the whole profit or glory, but you are better off than the one who hides it because you will be paid.

Leasing out your calling means that you recognize someone or an institution that will make profit from your ability and submit your calling to them. For instance, if you a called pastor, and God has called you to start a new work, but you are not courageous enough to start, instead of burying your calling, it is better to recognize another minister or ministry who is doing similar work and submit to them.

Please note; this is not the best that God desire for you. But it is the least He expected from us. Some other persons may have a calling to work under another and fulfill their purpose that way. That is alright as long as it’s in line with God’s original plan. Don’t start a new ministry or business if God has not called you into it. But, if He has called you to do it, don’t hesitate to start right now.

No matter what God might have called you into, it is a glorious one. Do all it takes to see it fruitful and ultimately bring pleasure to God.

#6: The greatest enemy you have to fight is fear

Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. (Matthew 25:24-25 KJV)

The fear of failure is the greatest threat to many callings today. Most people are stuck in jobs they dislike and which makes them unhappy because they are afraid to fail.

Fear is a tool the enemy uses to ground many destinies. Fear can make a man do contrary to his mission in life. Someone once said, “If there is anything to fear, it is fear itself”.

Many people know what their purpose and ability is; but they are yet to move in that direction because of fear. Fear magnifies opposition and problems and relegates your God-given ability.

If you want to finish well, you must fight everything that brings fear. Apostle Paul became successful despite the great opposition because he was able to overcome fear. On his way to Jerusalem, he said;

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (Acts 20:24 KJV)

If you want to overcome fear, your trust must not be in your ability, but in the power of God. Psalms 56:11 KJV says “In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me”. Having faith in God will relegate every obstacle and deliver victory to you in hardest seasons of your life.

#7: God enlarges you when you profit in your calling

Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. (Matthew 25:28-29 KJV)

Every time you do well in your God-given assignment, you qualify for more. I like you to understand that God will not take your profit away from you. Whatever you make of what God has given you belongs to you. For instance, a calling into business can make you famous among men. God will not take the fame from you nor take the money from you. He will rather open you up to higher callings if you continue to use it for His glory.

You qualify for higher calling, if you are faithful in what God has called you to do. I have seen great preacher who started their ministry with a little responsibility in the body of Christ before God called them to Pastor. That is why we must have a sense of urgency and completion towards our calling.

His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. (Matthew 25:21 KJV)

Where you are right now is a stepping stone to a higher calling. Your calling may seem little or insignificant today. But, if you will take diligence to fulfill it, God will commit much into your hands.

LAST WORDS

You are here on earth to fulfill God’s business. God sent you to earth to carry out a definite assignment. He sent you to earth because He is very much interested in you and also in the earth.

You are the one God is looking up to, to bring to pass His dream for earth. God’s kingdom will not reign on earth until it is reigning in you and I. and for His kingdom to reign in us, we must mind His business at all times.

Don’t let this book depart from you. See to it that you follow all that I have written therein and put them to work until your results begin to abound and evident for all to see.

God is counting on you; your generation is counting on you; and I am counting on you. No matter what you are going through right now, use it as a springboard to the fulfillment of your purpose.

Therefore, let’s all arise from our places of hibernation and see to it that God’s will become a reality on earth as it is real in heaven. Let’s give satan a run for all his evil deeds.

In closing, Jesus said “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19 KJV). And in Revelations it says, “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth”. (Revelation 5:10 KJV).

It’s the dawn of a new day for you. Shalom
