Foreword

The older I get, the more I realize how much we do not know. Incidentally, this is also a liberation insight, and one that has arisen, and continues to arise in my conversations with my friends. For itself at those moments of recognition that one becomes more and more thankful for those people who can do what one cannot do oneself, and thus, one learn to view with serenity, the limits of one’s own gifts.

We want to attempt all the more earnestly to listen very intensively to the “Power of Decision: Your Destiny Lies in Your Decision”, even to what at first does not suit us at all. And because of so many prejudices have left their imprints on us and our way of reading, we can only pray that God himself will free us from them more and more. Thus, may my effort also be understood, and I hope that you will read it not only critically, but also with a dash of friendly humor when you discover an error. For of course you know that those who merely sit on the grass and never climb the apple-tree will never pick any apple either.

The efforts Godspower Oparaugo made in putting his ideas in writing as a thing of substance, is a laudable move to effecting positive changes on humanity, even in the next generations. I saw in him, great potentials that will help him excel in the literary world and otherwise. This book is a MUST read. Grab your copy.

CHAPTER 1

"God is the architect of your destiny; He designed and drew your destiny to His glory and for your benefits. Then after drawing it, He handed it over to you, expecting you to fulfill it"” -Godspower Oparaugo

Make Decisions, Shape Your Future

When one has summoned the courage to make a decision, it is necessary for him to know in details the meaning of decision making. He should also, have it at the back of the mind that there are some risks to be taking and some benefits to enjoy for making any decision. Decisions have the power to build anyone who properly make them based on knowledge and can equally destroy anyone who intentionally makes them out of foolishness.

Then, what is a decision? It simply means the conclusion of choice made on a particular issue, subject or judgement by an individual or group of individuals upon which an action or varieties of actions are carried out. Decisions are made for actualization of goals. Decision entails the way people choose what to do immediately or in the future. Oxford Advance Learner’s Dictionary defined Decision “as a choice or judgement that you make after thinking and talking about what is the best thing to do”.

Decision is a battle that originates from the mind and becomes a reality through actions. That is the reason why your mind should constantly be on a positive mood. When a man succeeded in making a decision that led to his success and great achievements, he enjoys the benefits more than the people around him. But when a man made a decision that brought his downfall in life, people around him enjoy the benefits and leave him with memories of regret! That is to say that, any decision you make has the power to determine what happens around you which can equally influence your destiny and goal because, your destiny has a destination (a goal to achieve).

As a man pursues his destiny, his destiny pursues its destination (goal). Discovering your destiny means discovering your talent. Your talent attracts the blessings and grace of God to you and that is the reason why you must discover it. Your talent will lead you to your destiny. You don’t need a magic to become great in life, all you need is to work on your talent. Then, you must have vision with mission in pursuit of your destiny; a destiny hunter is a visionary. Furthermore, consider that wisdom upholds everything good, even your destiny. Without the application of wisdom in the pursuit of your destiny, you are playing games with your life. One’s talent discovery opens way for God’s blessings and grace. With talent, wisdom, and hardworking, success is achieved.

Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom -Proverbs 4:6-7.

Please do not take “the power of decisions” for granted because, it can influence your future. The power behind the decisions we make every day, have the capacity to build us when we make them with knowledge and it can equally be destructive to us when we make them out of ignorance. It is important not to overlook the power of decision making because it can make or mar ones future. You have no excuse! Your destiny lies in your decisions.

Bear it in mind that, each time you make a decision, you have added something new to your future! There are two ways we can shape our future. First, we can shape our future to achieve success and secondly, we can also shape it to achieve failure! It all depends on your decisions. I always tell people that “failure is an achievement likewise success”. We should be proactive whenever we consider success and failure. Nowadays, most people prefer spending quality time to make decisions on irrelevant things and giving less concern and little time to relevant ones. And this is one of the reasons we suffer much before we succeed even when we don’t need to suffer.

Even Obama, The President of America, knows quite well that for him to succeed in ruling America in his own way, he must have to focus on making decisions on the most relevant things. According to Sean Blanda, the Editor-in-Chief and Director of 99U, in his article “How Obama Gets Things Done, Obama said to Michael Lewis,

I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing because, I have too many other decisions to make”. I’ve discovered the power behind the decisions most people made. People like Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and many other scholars, geniuses, and successful people who have made decisions in the midst of uncertainties and achieved greatness in limitless measures. The power was to have a link to a beautiful future! Was it not the kind of decisions they made that peacefully-forced the entire world to celebrate them as genius even after their departure? They made both physical and spiritual decisions.

It can be dangerous to have a wrong motive towards any decision you are making. You must be careful and also bear in mind that, there are disastrous effects of every wrong decision made. Decisions are like a naked wire of electricity; it gives light to mankind and supports the standard of living and simultaneously, shocks anyone who carelessly touched it. In that case, you don’t have any other option when making decisions other than to be proactive and avoid making careless decisions.

Your Destiny Lies in Your Decisions

Inside everyone’s life, there is a degree of greatness which indicates that the great God dropped his native image and likeness of power within us expecting that we will develop ourselves and fulfill the purpose of creation” -Iroezi Godwin E.

If you want to achieve greatness in life, you must know that you have some vital roles to play towards actualizing your dreams. You must take quality time to discover who you are and what you can do with your talent and be in pursuit of it. You must equally know that the great God has made you great right from the day you were conceived and also made you a possessor of his image, his nature and his likeness. He made you powerful enough so that you will achieve greatness in limitless measures. Your life is the end product of your thoughts. Whatsoever your mind dwells on, determines your actions and your actions determine what happens around you. Your actions are the result of your decisions; the decisions you’ve made in your mind.

In the pursuit of your destiny, your decision matters a lot. It could be arguably say that, if fate would make you great in life, it would first and foremost make you face difficulties. To my understanding, only two distinct persons have the power to control the destiny of man. The persons are you and your creator. God is the architect of your destiny; He designed and drew your destiny to His glory and for your benefits. Then after drawing it, He handed it over to you, expecting you to fulfill it. What we do with the master plan of our destinies handed over to us by God, determines our success or our failure in life. Apart from you and your creator, no other living being has the power to control your destiny. Now you’ve known that you have some roles to play towards actualizing your destiny. You have to change your mentality towards your destiny. Each and every one of us is in charge of his or her destiny. Now, you’ve to be aware that your destiny lies in your hands and in your decisions.

The tale of two Tamars in the bible: Both were hit by adversity. One went home and remained desolate and despondent in her brother’s house. The other put off her widowhood garment and went ahead to become great. Our destinies are shaped at the points of our decisions” -Ngozi Okure.

The problem many people are facing today is not that God has refused to bless them; it’s the inability to make appropriate and accurate decisions in line with their God-given talents and opportunities. They are so much concerned on how to imitate other people; people that had already actualized their own dreams through making proper use of their time, money and energy. As we bear different names, different faces, different body structures and different colours; likewise our destinies. And for that, it’s not advisable for you to imitate someone but be yourself.

Decision is the conclusion, choice, plan and judgement of the mind. The mind is the pivot where man’s activities revolve. After gathering information on past occurrence of personal experiences in life, a new formula would have to be taken and executed by the mind. That is the power of decisions. God has placed man above all creations which means, the future of man is limitless! St. Paul says: “I can do everything through him (Christ) who gives me strength” -Philippians 4:13. How have you planned your future before deciding on what to do? Are you not aware that when your plans are accurate on how to achieve your destiny, God will permit you to fulfill it? I want you to know that God’s permission to your plans, desires and wishes is done only when they are in accordance to His will.

To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the mouth” -Proverbs 16:1 (NIV).

Therefore, bear it in mind that any decision you’ve made towards the actualization of your dream, determines how far you can go in life. In fact, it determines your destiny. King Saul of Israel made a wrong decision not to carry out the divine instruction which God gave him to completely destroy the Amalekites without mercy. He disobeyed God by sparing the life of king Agag. He also spared the lives of the best livestock of the Amalekites and kept them for himself whereas, he was ordered to destroy them completely. Saul spared everything that were good and because of that, God rejected him as king of Israel. That is to say, Saul’s destiny was ruined by his own decisions. Read 1Sam.15:1-35. Therefore, your destiny lies in your own decisions. You must be very careful of the decisions you make so as to avoid being rejected by the Most High God.

If a student fails to study, read or do other academic activities necessary for equipping him to achieve success, how would he become successful? In school, the destiny of a serious student who studies hard deeply lies in his decisions to start studying hard before the exams while, the destiny of a dull student lies in his decisions to backslide from studying hard. Nature cannot permit you to eat from where you did not labour. You can never be satisfied in life if you misplace your destiny with something else. Examine yourself and what you do to know if it can lead you to your destiny because, many are wasting their precious time on things that cannot help them.

If so, you need to be very careful when making decisions in regard to your future. A healthy decision can positively establish your destiny. In such manner, an ill-decision can negatively destroy your destiny. Life is ever ready to teach us everything we need to know through the good and bad experiences we encounter at every moment of our lives. But, the problem is, we aren’t learning as we ought to.

You Are the Product of Your Thoughts

The bible says to us pertaining to our thoughts and aspirations in the book of Proverbs 23:7-as a man thinks, so is he, and as a man chooses, so is he also”

Now, following the message of the word of God, I have convictions to conclude that life is simple and to live a successful life is also simple because, it’s in your hands. Whatever you wish to be in life depends on your thoughts. Your thoughts are the engine rooms of your success and greatness. That is to say that, your destiny depends on your thoughts which are where your decisions evolve. To make money or to live a well-fulfilled life is very simple; the way you take life is how it will be for you. It takes you nothing to become great in life; what it takes you is your thinking! Your thoughts over things will lure you to make either positive or negative decisions in life. It will set you to the right or to the left; to success or to failure. Your thinking will consequently determine your decisions while, your decisions will determine your actions. In regards to your destiny, positive thinking is highly essential.

Apart from the natural occurrences that are bound to happen, no other thing that happens to you in this life either in one way or the other pertaining to your destiny, can occur without your thoughts. It’s the word of God that validated this comment, I am not the one. Poverty does not exist in the minds of positive thinkers, no, it can’t. Positive thinkers embrace making positive decisions in line with their destinies. It is only in the minds of negative thinkers that poverty can proudly occupy. Whatsoever you decide stays for you; be it good or bad.

I told one of my friends that money comes in step by step and doesn’t come by magic. Money comes in after you must have made the sacrifices (doing the right thing that would pave ways for you) and after preparing a place for it. Thus, you must toil for your destiny; it demands the work of your brain, your skills and your tactics coupled with the grace of God. The problem most people are encountering today especially, Africans is having a quick-money scheme mindset. No one is now eager to toil for his needs.

God does not give us wealth. He gives us the power to create wealth. What we do with that power determines what volume of wealth that flows to us” -Ngozi Okure.

Thoughts are so powerful thus, influencing the destiny of man. They are strong feelings from the mind. Thought is also a process or power of thinking; faculty of reason. The rate at which you set your mind determines the rate you would be recognized in the society, even in the world at large. Your thoughts are capable of making you a celebrity. It’s only when you have a good thought about your future that you will make a better plan to achieve success.

CHAPTER 2

I discovered that nothing in this life can influence, control, help actualize or destroy our destinies, dreams and our future expectations more than the decisions we have made! -Godspower Oparaugo

Experiences Perfect Decisions

There is an adage each and every one of us is familiar with and that is, “experience is the best teacher”. Of a truth, I always hear people make such a comment most often. And of course, it’s just nothing but the truth, because, I had in one way or the other made the same comment. Therefore, we all have made the comment once in life and are still making it today! A man who had experienced a lot in life can easily withstand the test of time in any situation than the man who had none or little experience in life. The volume of experiences you have got can perfect and sustain your decisions; it can make your decisions to look right and clearer before anyone because, your judgement would base on facts.

If you carefully study the history of St. Paul in the scriptures, you will discover that he was a man who had a lot of life experiences out there in the world more than the other apostles before he was given a mandate or a task to spread the gospel of Christ to the gentiles. Even after his conversion, he was still encountering more experiences that kept helping him make better decisions in his ministry. Therefore, Paul’s patterns of spreading the gospel were purely outstanding and affirmatively accepted. Paul stood the test of time in his years of service in the vineyard of the Lord.

Are they servant of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers” -2 Corinthians 11: 23-33 (NIV).
