Created With A Divine Purpose

Psalm 139 - 13: “For You formed my inward parts, You knitted me together in my Mother’s womb”.

There’s a wonderful song entitled “No Longer A Slave To Fear”. How often we hear something of massive importance and yet its depth of profoundness manages to escape our awareness. Perhaps mental fatigue or just being generically busy, prevents us from pausing to ingest its magnitude. While listening to this mentioned song yesterday, the lyrics from one of its lines jumped out at me as if God had turned up the volume to “ten” in a second in time to get my attention. “From my mother’s womb You have chosen me”! And what had been sitting in my intellect went dramatically south to my heart.

We can “know” something and then we can “KNOW” something. The capitalized version has the power to change everything! Clarify everything! Give meaning to everything! Huge truth, rocks your world in the most magnificent of ways!

Regardless of how convoluted your life may be at the present, please pause for a moment and seriously consider this: While being very important in the process, your mother did not create you. With all due respect and appreciation for her efforts, Mom in fact was the delivery system to introduce to the world that which God created! You! Yes you! Formed, designed and knitted together by His will and for His purpose. The One who said: “Let there be light and there was light”, equally said: Let there be blue eyes or brown skin or size eight feet or a six foot frame or black hair Etc. Etc.: And there was! He spoke you into existence as He in identical fashion, spoke the universe into being, by His word! He said “let there be” and you were!

But why? Perhaps to add to the numbers or for us to simply take up space? Never! God does nothing without a desired end result, complete with a plan to accomplished that result. He has been intimately, personally, and intricately involved in our lives as individuals for a very long time. We were “known” to Him, long before He was “known” to us! That’s powerfully true!

In the beginning, before time existed, God wrote us into His Story and inscribed our names on the palm of His hand. He then proceeded to reveal our inclusion through the passage of time. We have always been on His magnificent mind! We were created, first and foremost, to love and worship Him with all our hearts. No doubt a reflection of how we are loved!

He has declared us to be the “object of His affection” and has never turned away from that declaration. He has faithfully lavished His immeasurable love and grace on and into our lives. We in turn are called to reciprocate by embracing Him in like manner. In doing so we complete the necessary ingredient for a two-way relationship of profound intimacy with our Creator and Heavenly Father. As we walk in His love, He births in us an equal love for His creation as we see them as He does.

Created by God in our mother’s womb to bear and wear His image. To be indicators of His love for the world! That’s a huge truth and is capsulated in this scripture that Jesus presents to us as clarification regarding our pre-destined purpose for existing! All the intricacies of life on planet earth reside under its umbrella of importance and influence.

Matthew 22 - 37 > 39: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment”. ( And to complete His statement Jesus adds this final comment of clarity to complete the thought ). “And You shall love your neighbor as yourself”.

This is why we were born from God’s perspective. This is why we are here according to Him. This is our destiny. Seeing as God created us, I think His viewpoint is hugely significant!

But oh how close some of us came to not being here!

Promises - Promises

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor are my parents. Catherine and William to be specific. Mom and Dad to me! At forty four years of age they had already managed to accumulate four children, the youngest of which was four. Wow, that’s a lot of fours.

Then came the news: Mom was, surprisingly to all, expecting her fifth. More often than not, surprises are a good thing. A celebratory thing. A “yeah” thing! This surprise did not fit those expressions at all. Major concerns permeated the news. Health issues, based on age, were obvious. It was 1947 and medical technology wasn’t close to what it is today. No, this was deemed an un-wise and risky proposition at best. Not something a forty four year old woman with four children to care for, should be entertaining as remotely intelligent. Doctors and Dad labelled this entire dilemma “a mistake”, but one with a quick and simple solution.

An abortion was suggested to my Mom, who evidently was far less concerned than the others with their well-founded fears. I can’t say for sure exactly how my Mom came to her conclusion. My ears hadn’t yet formed well enough to listen in at the time. But there are family stories that have circulated and I have no doubt as to their authenticity. Mom had a dramatically different viewpoint on the matter which she shared to the dismay of all. “God has given me this child and it is not a mistake but rather a blessing and will be a blessing to many. My child and I will be just fine”. I’m thinking neither Dad nor the Doctor were expecting that as a response, but in spite of their “dismay”, chose wisely not to challenge Mom.

And nine months later Billy ( My Mom never stopped calling me Billy ) arrived safe and sound!

I’m aware that God, had formed and chosen me in and from my Mother’s womb. It is literally applicable to my life. It’s an overwhelming thought that will never become casual in my mind, that the God who created the universe, has been there from my first second of life, protecting me every step of the way. Beginning by forming me in the womb of a woman who trusted her God with all her heart! God had made her a promise. One little Billy would challenge for many years. A promise that would challenge God’s faithfulness to the extreme. A promise that no one including me could derail. One that both Mom and her God would eventually see come to pass!

I had a Mother who prayed into her promise, that to her, transcended the obvious. She wasn’t encouraged by others to do so. She was used to that. You see, she wasn’t encouraged to allow me life, but she did!

Born as a Catholic in Ireland, she at a very young age, would be shipped by her family to Canada on her own to fend for herself. Eventually Catherine would meet a man named William. William was a Protestant.

Catherine considered William, a gift from God and was the first person who truly loved her. They would fall in love and marry, causing my Mom to be excommunicated from the Catholic church. Marrying a Protestant was considered a one way ticket to hell back then.

I never heard my Mom speak ill of those who had shown her the door, always choosing the high road of thankfulness for what she had.

My Mother possessed a sweet and gentle soul combined with the ferocious, no-quit, heart of a Lion.

She couldn’t be intimated nor drawn into exchanges of evil for evil by the unfair or un-justified treatment of others. Mom wouldn’t entertain such thoughts. She lived her life in a higher place than that and refused to relinquish her spiritual residence for anything nor anyone.

While others knew their religion, my Mother knew her God and to her, that’s all she needed to know. She followed her heart. A heart that resonated with the sound of God’s loving voice as its directive!

She had the spiritual DNA of Jesus running through her veins like no other women I have ever met. She was never wealthy but considered herself richly blessed.

She nursed and cared for my father through his final thirty years of life without complaint, he having had major brain surgery in his mid-fifties.

My goodness, what a blessed womb God chose to form me in! What a sacred place He chose me from! Thank you Mom for believing your promise and thank you God for being faithful to your daughter’s belief. Combined, you are the only reasons I am here!

Folks, to me grace is not a theory but rather a fact! I’ve simply ingested too much of it to think otherwise!

I pray, that whatever is left of my life on planet earth, that it be lived out as a confirmation to Mom’s promise. “He will be a blessing to many”. May the God who has protected me from birth by grace, let it be so! I have recently mentioned to others, that for the first time in my life, and over the past four years specifically, I feel like I’m finally doing what I was born to do. That’s an amazing feeling of immense fulfillment in one’s life. May I encourage you to search your heart for the reason you were born. I guarantee, there is one! Once discovered it changes everything!

I could brag on my Mother and her God, who is now my God, all day long! But let’s consider for a moment an old saying: “It ain’t bragging if it’s true”! Hugely True!

My Ministry Into Our Ministry

Mark 6 - 38 & 41: “How many loaves do you have He asked?” “Go and see”. When they found out they said, “Five and two fish”. Taking the five loaves and two fish and looking up to heaven He gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to His disciples to DISTRIBUTE to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all”. ( Five thousand plus, were fed that day! )

In the biblical story of the “fishes and loaves”, I so clearly see three dynamics in play to achieve the desired completion of the heavenly orchestrated equation. The young boy GAVE what little he had, our Lord then MULTIPLIED it, and the disciples then DISTRIBUTED it.

It’s interesting to note that Jesus, after the multiplying didn’t say, “Come and get it”. What He did say was, “Everyone find a place to sit on the grass and I’ll bring it to you, through my own”. Folks, He loves to involve us. He loves to make us matter! We are blessed beyond measure to be written into, His stories! Just imagine: Invited by Him to participate in His plans for others!

From the inception of the idea of writing books to be made available to “all freely”, there has never been a moment when I haven’t been aware of its ministry context. I could easily be seen as the “young boy” in the story. Jesus has most certainly multiplied my meager offering to Him.

So may I invite and encourage you to be a distributor of that which He has multiplied, thereby elevating “My Ministry” into “Our Ministry”, thus completing “His Ministry”. There’s something about that idea that sounds “perfect” to my heart!

We all have friends, family, work mates, school mates, etc. I’ve included a simple directional on “how to find” the “fishes and loaves”. Please feel free to share “what you eat” with others. You have no idea where it could lead to! That young boy’s mother could never have dreamed, what that little lunch she had prepared for her son on that fateful morning, would produce!

Thanks in advance. Bill Taylor
